Pregnancy Massage

Even if you only work with an occasional pregnant client, it is vital you have reliable practice guidelines. In this workshop, you will learn safe and comfortable prenatal positioning techniques and contraindications. You will explore general massage modifications and selected essential techniques to safely address the pregnant mother. This program is designed for all massage and bodywork students and practitioners, seeking a better understanding and how to safely adapt their own techniques to pregnancy's demands.

Class Objectives

1. Identify structural, changes relevant to massage practices.
2. Identify and safely perform basic pregnancy massage therapy during low-risk, uncomplicated pregnancies.
3. Position and drape pregnant clients for safe, effective massage therapy.
4. Modify basic massage routines for supine, side lying and semi-reclining positions and to more effectively respond to the needs of pregnant women experiencing normal low risk pregnancies.

For this course it is important to obtain a copy of Pre-and Perinatal Massage by Carol Osborne-Sheets.
